OUTSpoken at UNCC with Keith Boykin

On Wednesday, October 4, 11 members of the Charlotte Steering Committee held their monthly meeting at the Cone University Center at UNCC.  The group met prior to hearing Keith Boykin, editor of the Daily Voice, and former special assistant to President Bill Clinton, speak to a full house of UNCC students, faculty and other Charlotte area LGBT organizations.  Keith was invited to UNCC to talk about being black and gay in America.  His 90 minute talk covered such topics as the comparison between the Civil Rights movement for blacks in the 60’s and the current civil rights movement for LGBT Americans. The session was followed up by a dessert reception where several local LGBT organizations, including HRC Charlotte, staffed information tables for students to learn more about what’s happening in Charlotte’s LGBT community. To learn more about getting involved with HRC Charlotte, click on the Volunteer tab above or e-mail hrccharlotte@hrccharlotte.org.
